Water Fitness Instructor Course Description
PP&R offers basic training for candidates interested in instructing Water Fitness Group Classes. Classes are offered twice a year in fall and spring, weekends for one term, and week nights for the other.
Age 15 or older by first day of class. Participants must have a minimum of 30 -50 hours of experience in group water fitness classes, be familiar with water exercises and have the ability to demonstrate proper technique and safety considerations from the deck as well as the water.
This course is designed for;
- the beginner who has water fitness experience with little or no formal training as an Instructor
- Water Fitness Instructors who need practical experience
- Group Fitness Instructors who want to transition to the water
- Individuals who are interested in learning more about their personal water fitness exercise.
A Water Fitness Instructor Manual is provided covering basic anatomy, physical laws of movement, safe use of equipment, cuing techniques, class design, choreography and exercises for both deep and shallow water. Class will take place in the classroom, in the pool and on the pool deck. Certificates will be awarded for passing final written exam and successful deck demonstration.
Instructors seeking employment without an approved National Aquatic Certification must pass this course prior to application. Portland Parks & Recreation Water Fitness Instructors are required to obtain AEA Certification within 1 year of employment (http://www.aeawave.com/).
